چکیده

Decadal-long radial velocity surveys have recently started to discover analogs to the most influential planet of our solar system, Jupiter. Detecting and characterizing these worlds is expected to shape our understanding of our uniqueness in the cosmos. Despite the great successes of recent transit surveys, Jupiter analogs represent a terra incognita, owing to the strong intrinsic bias of this method against long orbital periods. We here report on the first validated transiting Jupiter analog, Kepler-167e (KOI-490.02), discovered using Kepler archival photometry orbiting the K4-dwarf KIC-3239945. With a radius of 0.91 0.02 ( )  RJ, a low orbital eccentricity (0.06 0.04 0.10 ), and an equilibrium temperature of 131 3 ( )  K, Kepler-167e bears many of the basic hallmarks of Jupiter. Kepler-167e is accompanied by three Super-Earths on compact orbits, which we also validate, leaving a large cavity of transiting worlds around the habitable-zone. With two transits and continuous photometric coverage, we are able to uniquely and precisely measure the orbital period of this post snow-line planet (1071.2323± 0.0006d), paving the way for follow-up of this K=11.8 mag target.

HAT-P-5b: A JUPITER-LIKE HOT JUPITER TRANSITING A BRIGHT STAR

We report the discovery of a planet transiting a moderately bright (V = 12.00) G star, with an orbital period of 2.788491± 0.000025 days. From the transit light curve we determine that the radius of the planet is Rp = 1.257± 0.053RJup. HAT-P-5b has a mass of Mp = 1.06± 0.11MJup, similar to the average mass of previously-known transiting exoplanets, and a density of ρp = 0.66± 0.11 g cm. We find...

The ” missing link ” : a 4 - day period transiting exoplanet around OGLE - TR - 111 ⋆

We report the discovery of a transiting hot Jupiter around OGLE-TR-111, from our radial velocity follow-up of OGLE transiting candidates in Carina. The planet has a mass of 0.53 ± 0.11 M J and a radius of 1.0 +0.13 −0.06 R J. Three transiting exoplanets have already been found among OGLE candidates, all with periods near 1.5 days. The planet presented here, with P = 4.0 days, is the first exopl...

Constraining the Rotation Rate of Transiting Extrasolar Planets by Oblateness Measurements

The solar system gas giant planets are oblate due to their rapid rotation. A measurement of the planet’s projected oblateness would constrain the planet’s rotational period. Planets that are synchronously rotating with their orbital revolution will be rotating too slowly to be significantly oblate; these include planets with orbital semi-major axes ∼< 0.2 AU (for MP ∼ MJ and M∗ ∼ M ). Jupiter-l...

KEPLER-6b: A TRANSITING HOT JUPITER ORBITING A METAL-RICH STAR∗

We announce the discovery of Kepler-6b, a transiting hot Jupiter orbiting a star with unusually high metallicity, [Fe/H] = +0.34± 0.04. The planet’s mass is about 2/3 that of Jupiter, MP = 0.67MJ, and the radius is 30% larger than that of Jupiter, RP = 1.32RJ, resulting in a density of ρP = 0.35 g cm−3, a fairly typical value for such a planet. The orbital period is P = 3.235 days. The host sta...

Searching For Planetary Transits In The Open Cluster NGC 7789

Open clusters are ideal targets for searching for transiting Hot Jupiters. They provide a relatively large concentration of stars on the sky and cluster members have similar metallicities, ages and distances. Fainter cluster members are likely to show deeper transit signatures, helping to offset sky noise contributions. A survey of open clusters will then help to characterise the Hot Jupiter fr...
